Playing Firefighter

On March 21, 2005, I got to spend an afternoon with the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue in Washington County, Oregon. For about three hours, I went through various fire and rescue training drills with the firefighters, including cutting up a car to rescue a car accident victim, climbing a tower to put out a fire, and operating the fire truck's ladder. All very exciting.

Storm of the Winter?

It was suppose to be the biggest storm of the winter for Washington, DC. But only a few flakes fell and we ended up with perhaps less than three inches of very wet snow. This photo is the view from my back patio. Posted by Hello

My Favorite Crepe Place in Pentagon City

This photo was takenduring the fall of 2004 when it was pleasant to dine outdoor. It's now March 2005 and we're forecasting another 10 days of on and off snow and sleet. I hope for Spring to arrive soon. Posted by Hello

Mi Moto Fidel

I got my motorcyle today! It's a Honda Shadow Spirit 750. It's small enough to be manuverable in the city but powerful enough to get on the highway. It should be delivered sometime next week.

At this point, I would probably do very well to save my money and use the metro to get around. But I have this strong desire to have an alternative set of wheels to get me out of town, and if anything, to be able to roam aimlessly without the restriction of a rental car agency. I think it'll be a fun summer. Posted by Hello

Motorcycle Fancy

I've been thinking a lot about buying a motorcycle lately. While I mostly depend on the Washington Metro to get me around town, I think a motorcycle is a relatively inexpensive way to obtain an alternative way of getting myself around and out of Washington.

I've narrowed myself down to three models. They are the Honda Shadow Spirit 750, the Honda Shadow VLX, and the Suzuki Boulevard S40. While the idea of getting a smaller model is appealing for my intial learning phase, I've been thinking a lot about the 750 Shadow. It has enough horsepower to get me on the highway but it is small and manuverable enough to get me around the city.

I will visit a motorcycle dealer tomorrow and make my decision. Then I'll have to figure out a name for the bike.

President's Day Weekend - February 20-21, 2005

I traveled to New York City during President's Day weekend to see mom. The drive from Washington, DC to Brooklyn was challenging as the weather turned halfway through the afternoon. I left DC around 1pm and arrived in Brooklyn by 7pm. I was very pleased to see mom. I was also surprised that she wanted to have a few pints. She normally doesn't drink.

Snow doesn't seem so tough when I'm not driving. It also serves to cover up the grimy city. After mom went to sleep I took a walk around the block. Although the housing prices were lifted by last three years' real estate boom, the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood is hardly pleasing to look at. However, it was pleasant enough to have a walk in the snow and enjoy the city while it was asleep.

This was the last weekend before the end of the display. Although conditions were not accomodating for sightseeing, it was good to just take a walk with mom and see the city moving and mixing with the tourists.

Cannon Beach is a much fancied part of the Oregon coastline. The town is dotted with art galleries, cafes, and multi-million dollar vacation homes.

Here is Ajah Maloney and Brooke Densmore enjoying a moment on the beach.
