Thursday Penn Quarter Farmers' Market

It was a bit rainy this afternoon, but I slipped out of the office to get some veggies for dinner. For $8, I got a pint of fresh cherries and 1/2 lb of lettuce.

Vesper

"A dry martini," Bond said "One. In a deep champagne goblet."

"Oui, monsieur."

"Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?"

"Certainly, monsieur." The barman seemed pleased with the idea.

"Gosh, that's certainly a drink," said Leiter.

Bond laughed. "When I'm...er...concentrating," he explained, "I never have more than one drink before dinner. But I do like that one to be large and very strong and very cold and very well-made. I hate small portions of anything, particularly when they taste bad. This drink's my own invention. I'm going to patent it when I can think of a good name."

Kramerbooks on a Sunday night

I had to get out of the house and get away from studying! I headed to Kramerbooks with the intention of reading my new book "I, Lucifer," getting coffee, a drink, and dessert. Instead I stayed at Kramer's until half past 12 talking to Lindsay, a woman who writes for the DCist. I'm enjoyed getting out and engaging in random but enjoyable conversations, but I'm short on sleep today!

Friday in the city

I unepectedly found this street performer at the Chinatown-Gallery Place Metro station last Friday. Apparently he's sponsored by the DC Commission on the Arts. Anyhow, it's great to see some culture on DC streets. I stayed and enjoyed the music for about 20 minutes before heading home.

Crosby found new parents!

This is a few days late, but Crosby found new parents and went home with them last weekend!

Crosby was living at Wagtime, a local doggie daycare in Shaw. From what the staff at Wagtime told me, Crosby is five but has been abandoned four times in his life. Needless to say, Crosby is a little tramatized and gets very nervous when people leave him at home by himself. But other than that he is a very social and friendly boy. Since Jack passed away, I let Crosby sleep over whenever I lock myself in to study for my classes at University of Maryland.

It made my day when Wagtime called to tell me about Crosby's good news!

Rugby : France - South Africa (Test 2) by

Just a nice day at the Navy Memorial in DC

It was such a beautiful afternoon. After two days of spending 14-18 hours a day at the office, I had to step out of the office on June 21 and catch the sunset.

Jack just a couple weeks before he passed

He was still alert and playful. While he was really skinny compared to his normal weight, Jack still had that shine in his eyes. Who knew he would be gone by Memorial Day?

Jack 's Wagtime video

This video of Jack was taken about two weeks before he passed away. He was still healthy and very playful for a 14 year old. I'm thankful that he got to go to Wagtime everyday for the last two weeks and was happy up until the very end.

Jack's last day

Jack passed away at 8am this morning. He was the most loyal, handsome, goofy, stubborn, burpy, farty, smelly, sweetest boy there is. Jack loved people and he loved playing with other dogs until the day he went away. He fell asleep with his head in my arms. Jack was 14. I loved him.

Jack is sick

Jack isn't feeling well today. I'm really worried because he's over 14 years old. I woke up this morning and Jack just had this worried look on his face. He's barely capable of walking on his own power and I had to carry him to the front and back to his bed for him to do his business. Since he is having stomach problems, I'm hoping that's all it is. If it carries on I'll have to take him to the Friendship Animal Hospital later today.

Saturday - French and the National Gallery of Art

It's such a beautiful day! After French class today I thought I'd pop into the National Gallery of Art to have a look around. I'm starving but I really need to get my budget under control. So instead of spending money on bad food, I'll consume something else much more satisfying.

I spent approximately two hours in the museum. I could have spent more time there but I didn't want to leave Jack at the day care for too long. I saw many great pieces. But I liked this self portrait of Gauguin the best. The colors are extremely vibrant and there's something myterious about the way Gauguin saw himself.

Pre-St. Patrick's Day Guinness mustache party

This photo was actually taken in early March 2007 with Jason Manto and his friends. Jason's friend was heading off to Africa to be with his girlfriend. We were all pretty tired from driving down from Brooklyn, but couldn't resist a couple pints at Fado's in Chinatown.

Vote for me!

I spent last night volunteering for a Democratic presidential campaign working the annual AIPAC conference. It was a fun night with lots of colors and presidential campaign staffers jockying for conventioners attention. I enjoyed working with other volunteers and staffers and hope to do more work during this election cycle.

However, I was disgusted with this AIPAC participant's offer to raise $3 million in exchange for a photo op with my candidate. I know the public thinks politicians are all for sale. But if that's what they want running the country, they'll get what they paid for.

I enjoyed today's Eugene Robinson's op-ed on Barack Obama. I'm not sold on his candidacy yet but I appreciate Obama's sense of ideal and his mission to transform America's politics. I hope he continues with his brand of civil discourse. Maybe he'll make the public think government service is once again honorable.

This has to be one of my favorite videos!

"Isms and ocracies. Give me facts. A rubber planter beats his labourer - all right, I'm against him. He hasn't been instructed to do it by the Minister of the Colonies. In France I expect he'd beat his wife. I've seen a priest, so poor he hasn't a change of trousers, working fifteen hours a day from hut to hut in a cholera epidemic, eating nothing but rice and salt fish, saying his Mass with an old cup - a wooden platter. I don't believe in God yet I'm for that priest. Why don't you call that colonialism?"
